Transferred from Bauru: March 11, 2013

Hi there family and friends!!

Today is transfer day, and last night we received a very sad but exciting phone call. We got the call last night because when you will train they call you the night before so you can get ready sooner. Elder A. got the call to stay here in Bauru and train a new missionary, and I will be transferred. I was so sad because we both wanted to stay together. Bauru is an amazing area, the best house, best location, best area, best ward, and we have some amazing golden investigators right now. Two baptisms for this next Sunday, a really golden couple (I dreamt that I was at the temple with them when they were getting sealed. I’ll send out a snail mail letter with lots more details on them!!), and at least 2 if not 3 for the Sunday after that as well. And, I really love the people here too, but it is a call from the Lord so of course I will go. I am going to Cascavel in the state of Parana, so I will take an almost 5-hour bus ride back to Londrina and then I will take an almost 10-hour bus ride to Cascavel, which is the zone closest to Foz do Iguacu (Iguacu Falls) zone (Cascavel means rattlesnake, by the way). I’m excited now, now that all my tears are dried up and I am pumped to serve in Cascavel, everyone always says great things about that zone!!! And I will be travel companions with Elder C. a good friend from here to Londrina, and I will go from Londrina to Cascavel with none other than Elder F. (my companion from when I first got to Bauru)!!! It will be really fun!! My new companion will be Elder R., I think he is from somewhere in Washington. That’s always a safe bet with missionaries from the States because there is a huge group from Washington.

Our last district meeting before transfers you have from left to right: Elder A., Elder M. S. (he ended his mission today!!), Elder C., Elder C., Elder V. and then Yours Truly.

Our golden investigator couple that Elder A. will have to baptize this next week without me. We all look a little sad because we were all crying a lot when I told them that I would be transferred.

So here we go with answers to your questions...

  1. How are your new converts doing? Are they coming to church? Do you work much with them now that they have been baptized? Our converts here are doing GREAT except one, B., I don’t know what happened, she just stopped talking to us and is avoiding us so we have no idea what is going on, but the rest are all active and doing great!! So mostly we only visit them about every other week now to see how they are doing and to answer any questions that come up but we really don’t work with our new converts a whole ton!
  2. Do you speak English or Portuguese with Elder A. when no one is around? We speak Portuglish. It’s a total mix, we slide back and forth between languages.
  3. What’s the story with the giant wristwatch?? We found these cool watches in Centro and they were cheap.
I am too young to have an almost-Eagle Scout, senior year-registering, SAT-taking LITTLE brother!!! I feel super old right now!! NOSSA!!

I think that is about it for today, lots to do before I spend 15 hours on a bus. I’m sure next week I’ll tell you all about the joys of long bus rides and all about my new area and comp!!  (Dad, sorry that I don’t comment a lot about your part that you write each week, I do really enjoy reading your parts!! Keep them coming, please!!)

Com Amor,
Elder Cummings

  1. Wow. What a roller coaster ride. I felt so sad he AND his companion had to leave at the same time. That must be hard to not have anyone there when you come in! My son's description of transfers today, like March madness on Christmas eve made me smile. Both of these boys make today sound crazy!
